Update image captcha

Hi, I am back home and can you update now on the captcha situation that caused the problem so that nobody was able to comment on my blog.

First of all
I am sure imHuman captcha is based on a great idea and the malfunctioning was most likely caused by an incompatibility with one or more other plugins I am using. And there is the catch for me! This blog is about blogging, tech stuff included. I often use plugins and then write a blog post about them as I did here: Blogging Tools. And that involves installing and using and testing and evaluating new plugins I come accross and that might be useful for my readers — you. So, I simply can’t risk that a new plugin upsets an old one, the plugin that doesn’t play well along with the others gets send outside until it learns to behave ;-)

So, my suggestion to the developer of the imhuman plugin. Why don’t you include a security catch that automatically disables the plugin when a conflict occurs? That way people would be still able to post their comments during a malfunction of the plugin.

Oh, and I forget to mention we still use this plugin over at my husbands’ blog and it is behaving well there. But it simply doesn’t like my blog and the community of other plugins here ;-)

A great blogger I know just found said one time recently “You are becoming the creator of your own writing destiny” Go ahead and read Jennifer’s Procrastinating Writers Blog, it is worth it ;-)

So, with that, I am off now to hunt for a new captcha plugin for this blog. Anybody any suggestions?

  • OK, here’s a test to see if I can comment. : )

Would you consider writing an article on which plugins you really like for your blog?

  • Now I’ve discovered that the image captcha has prevented someone leaving a genuine comment.

  • I agree that there should be security setting to disable a plug-in if there is a conflict, and I can’t tell you how many times I have commented on a regular blog only to be rejected if they have installed a new plug-in. It’s a hassle to the blogger if they have to check on their plug-in to see if it is rejecting commenters, not to mention a turnoff to some readers.

Honestly I prefer spam guard like Akismet or Bad Behaviour for security rather than using captcha. Sometimes, I felt being bothered and untrusted when I was tested with captcha.

Monika, oh, Monika, you are giving yourself away as a spammer. Don’t you remember that you have left comments before on this blog? Don’t know why I leave your link intact, might be because the site you are linking to is ok and I quite like you – some how.
Just take care not to overdo it, will you? Slow down and actually concentrate on what your are doing whilst back linking. Remember, less is more! ;-) SY

  • That’s a shame because I thought the plugin was a really cool idea. I am not sure I want to test it now.

I can’t tell you if you should test it or not, but it didn’t work out for my husbands blog nor for mine. Both blogs using different themes and different combinations of plugins. SY

  • I too agree that Image captcha is really working. If there is any conflict in CAPTCHA code entered it automatically disables the plugin and gives me the good result for my blog sites.

No, the one I used didn’t work that way, unfortunately. That is one of the reasons I switched to a more traditional one. If you know of an image captcha that does work, I would be grateful for a link, SY

  • Hi SY, which CAPTCHA plugin are you using now and is it working fine for you? Since my blog got PR3 I started getting quite a few spam comments despite running “WP Spam Free” which was working fine so far. I am not really a fan of CAPTCHAs, but now there seems no way around it any more.

Hi Claudia, I am using this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/si-captcha-for-wordpress/ now. It is working fine, the only thing missing is that I can’t find an easy way to add it also to my contact form ;-( But apart from that it saves me from literally hundreds of spammers each day! SY
